Mark Gersmehl (otherwise known as "Gersh") has long been captivated by the arts. One of his earliest memories is of being surrounded by the sounds of classical music, both at home and in the Lutheran church where he grew up. By the age of 15 he was playing music professionally, and soon went on to play keyboards and horn for the Bill Gaither Trio, legendary Motown group the O-Jays, and professional orchestras in his home state of Indiana. In 1982 Mark became one of the founding members and primary songwriters for Whiteheart, a pop/rock band that would quickly become one of the most successful groups in contemporary Christian music.
But while his gift for songwriting and performing ultimately led to a successful recording career spanning twenty years and including more than 12 albums, 22 Dove award nominations, two Grammy nods, and over 1.5 million records sold, it is his longtime love of the written word that now compels him to tackle his first non-musical project.
Drawing on his vast knowledge of literary works (his father was an English teacher), Mark lovingly crafts a universal story of hope, bitter disappointment and gratitude in a way that will evoke both laughter and tears from even the most jaded of readers. An encourager by nature, his message is aimed at bringing hope to the millions of people who struggle each year with the desperate and often unmet desire for children of their own.
When he's not busy writing, Mark continues to record music, and is currently working on several projects. He and Brynn travel frequently, doing concerts and speaking engagements at venues across the US and abroad. Mark has also taught songwriting at the yearly World Arts Conference at Willow Creek Community Church in Illinois as well as GMA of the Rockies. When he's not busy working, Mark enjoys running, cheering on a game of football or basketball, and eating enormous amounts of his wife’s cooking.
Mark and Brynn live in Nashville, TN with their nine year old son, Trevor.
